Fundraising for our new laser cutter

fundraising cheque presentation

Students at Skipton Girls' High School will be working at the cutting edge of new technology thanks to fundraising friends of the school.

The Friends of SGHS handed over £5000 towards a new laser cutter for the Gargrave Road schools’ design technology department.

The money was raised through events such as a curry and quiz night, social breakfasts, raffles, Mother’s Day stall and a summer celebration.

The department itself also made and sold tea light candle holders to help by the £8000 piece of equipment.

The school’s curriculum leader for technology Paul Braden said it was vital for the school as an engineering academy to keep pace with changing technologies in industry and to ensure that students were prepared for such changes.

“with this new equipment we can now look to develop the curriculum and narrow the gap between the school and industry by bringing the ‘real-world’ into the classroom,” he added.
