Labour Market Information

Skills Gap and Labour Market Information (LMI)

Brexit is the firing gun on a decade of disruption. As the UK negotiates its new place in the world, an accelerating wave of economic, social and technological change are reshaping the country and the skills required to achieve success.  As a careers team, it is essential that we remain at the forefront of change and use the most up to date labour market information (LMI) to inform our provision to ensure students are excellently prepared for their future- whatever that may hold.

LMI can be everything from overwhelming and confusing in-depth statistics to hearing about a potential employer starting up near where you live. Learning how to use it can help young people to make informed decisions about their future study and career choices.  LMI tells you about what is happening in the job market at national, regional and local levels and includes information about jobs and salaries, what skills employers are looking for in different industrial sectors, conditions, communities and future trends.

Are you interested in a few different career areas and want to see how they compare side by side? This tool from the LMI for All website (http://www.lmiforall.org.uk/) lets you compare up to three jobs and look at how much they pay, what your day-to-day duties might be and whether there will be many job opportunities available in this career area in the future.

Type in the title of the job you are interested in and the widget provides a series of options from which you can select the most relevant to you. You can then look up another two occupations and compare. You can also select ‘display the UK average’ and compare the information with the occupation you have selected.
