About me:

I began my teaching career at Harrogate High School in 2011 as a newly qualified teacher and I have never looked back.  During my time at the school, I have developed a wealth of knowledge of teaching and learning and have worked tirelessly to accelerate the progress and outcomes of each student.

Alongside my teaching role, I have also led on several whole school priorities.  As the Careers Leader, I have strategic responsibility for the careers programme at Harrogate High School and lead the Career Hub which consists of a team of people who seek to raise knowledge, understanding and aspiration across the school.  In this role, I work passionately to develop provision to ensure that students are well prepared for the next stage of their lives.  In order to do this, it is essential that I continue to work with careers expert and business leaders in the Harrogate and wider areas.  This is typified in our work with Louise Lunn who is the CEC Career Hub Manager for York, North Yorkshire, and our work with Lisa Avins, our Enterprise Advisor.  Using their knowledge and experience has been invaluable and has allowed us to make ongoing improvements to our provision.

Qualifications:

  • BA (Hons) history - Liverpool University 1998
  • PGCE (secondary) history - Leeds Trinity University 2004

About me:

Hospitality, marketing, teaching...

So far my career has woven a path through these three sectors, this has allowed me to develop a knowledge and skillset to support students in maximising their potential and aspiration.

I began my teaching career at an 11-18 comprehensive school in Leeds. In my 11.5 years there I worked my way from a humanities supply teacher to the assistant headteacher. I had oversight of key stage 4, alternative provision, PSHE and careers. I have many years experience in helping students make informed and aspirational choices at all transition points; whether that is deciding on GCSE options, whether to opt for A levels or apprenticeships or which university course is right for you.

As part of the careers team at Harrogate High School, I am overseeing year 7 and year 8. We will look to ensure all students are given the opportunity to consider all options available to them.

We are here to help

Qualifications:

  • BA (Hons) International Development – UEA 2009
  • Post Graduate Certification in Law and Information Governance – Northumbria 2018
  • Post Graduate Certification in International Business Leadership – York 2020

About me:

I am the Group IT Director at Techbuyer where I lead the IT, Sustainability and Project teams alongside technical, research and innovation partnerships. My research and development focus are hardware energy efficiency and the environmental and economic impacts of IT hardware during creation, use and disposal. I am a firm believer in the circular economy and sustainable solutions for business and job growth.

I have contributed to the UK’s Industrial Strategy through the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Committee and had research published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, most recently the IEEE Journal of Sustainable Computing.

I left school without the grades I needed for university and an uncertain career path. I firmly believe that if you work hard enough and have a good attitude you’ll create opportunities. I now try to help young adults create those opportunities and get in the best position to make the most of them when they arrive.

Furthermore, I have been a Trustee for Claro Mental health since 2015 and am currently a Board member for the York and North Yorkshire Skills and Employability Board
