We realised the importance of the UCI World Road Championships coming to Harrogate and wanted to celebrate the fact that this was the first time in 37 years this event was to take place in the UK.
Our first project, ‘Harrogate High School Welcomes the World,’ a project supported by Harrogate Borough Council, involved students researching and creating flags of the many participating countries. They then created a welcome sign and these flanked the entrance of the school.
Secondly a large land art project ‘Cycle and Recycle’ supported by North Yorkshire County Council was produced from recycling. This incorporated three environmental messages – Save the bees, Plant more tress and Clean our seas.
Together these two school-wide projects featured in the coverage from the BBC of the UCI World Championships on BBC 2.
