Praise and Reward

At Harrogate High School we feel it is essential to develop on an already strong positive praise culture. We feel that students should be praised for their excellent behaviour, commitment to learning, engagement in enrichment activities, commitment to student voice and exceptional attendance among many other reasons.

Students are rewarded up to three credits per lesson for their effort and commitment to learning and these will be recorded on ClassCharts. Students are also able to receive Praise/CARES Postcards for showing outstanding commitment to learning.

Students are also able to receive positive credits for displaying positive behaviours outside the classroom. There are also a number of staff stamps which can be rewarded for outstanding learning or behaviour.

Students receive rewards for their hard work every half term, during our 'Rewards Week' which typically takes place during the final week of each term.

The more credits accumulated during the half term, the better chance to be in the Top 25% rewards tier.

This year's rewards are shown below:

Students speak very positively about the new strategy and have made the following remarks:

“I really like getting stamps and stickers in lessons when I am working hard and I really enjoy the praise assemblies”

“I love receiving praise postcards from staff, I like to share this with my parents to show how well I am doing”

“Praise assemblies are ace, I really like receiving my certificates and there were some great prizes on offer”

“ the praise trip to the Everyman cinema was such a great day – I really enjoyed the film and spending the day with my friends”

We are passionate a developing our praise strategy further and welcome feedback from parents and students to ensure we can make further improvements.
