Enrichment at Harrogate High School

At Harrogate High School we offer a lot more than academic excellence.  We passionately believe that developing a thriving enrichment programme is an essential part of promoting employability, academic attainment and teaching young people the skills they need to make informed choices. These skills have benefits well beyond the classroom.

"I really like the after-school sports clubs and the teachers, who are friendly and supportive" - Student

So, what is enrichment?

Enrichment is any activity which takes places beyond students’ timetabled academic pursuits to enrich their learning and build cultural capital. At Harrogate High School we have a varied enrichment programme that students can immerse themselves in of which there is a short summary below:

  • After-school clubs (see the programme on this page)
  • Sporting fixtures
  • Music performances/competitions
  • Instrumental and vocal tuition provided by highly qualified specialist musician-tutors
  • Drama/dance/performing arts productions
  • Student leadership development
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Year 9/10)
  • Work experience (Year 10)
  • National Citizenship Service
  • Workshops (Speaker’s Trust, STEM sessions, Dramatisations of English texts, etc.)
  • Aspiration programmes such as SHINE and Brilliant Club Scholars’ Programme
  • Local and national educational visits
  • International educational visits

We endeavour to make enrichment as inclusive as possible, ensuring all students have the opportunity to access these.  Please see our Pupil Premium Strategy for details on how students we are in receipt of Pupil Premium funding for can access funding for trips and visits.  Students on Free School Meals can also benefit from funded instrumental/vocal tuition.
