Transition to secondary school is a time of great change. We have set up this page to give you updates on transition arrangements for this year as well as offering useful resources and exciting activities to help make the process run smoothly.

Parent Information Booklet
In this booklet we have brought together information on all of the key aspects of transition. We hope this will provide you with lots of valuable support over coming months.
Open Evening
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting an open evening for parents, in school, on Monday 13th June between 17:00 - 19:00pm. We have written to all parents with details of this event however, if you have any further questions, please contact us at transition@harrogatehighschool.co.uk

Headteacher’s Welcome VideoMonday 23rd May 2022 Your first chance to hear directly from our Headteacher via a recorded message, which we will share via our school website on the dedicated Year 6 Transition page. |

Virtual School TourMonday 6th June 2022 To give you the chance to see inside our school and the facilities we have to offer we will be sharing a recorded tour of the school which will show you around key spaces and department classrooms. Again, you will find this by clicking the link on the link on our Transition web page. |

Data Collection Form Issue DayMonday 6th June 2022 We will be sending all parents/carers a form to complete which asks for key information about your child. This is information that we must hold on file in order to admit your child, it will include details such as key family contacts, medical information etc. |

Parent Information EveningMonday 13th June 2022 We know how important it is to speak personally with school staff and therefore we want to invite parents are carers into school to hear directly from our Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team. At this event we aim to provide you with a wealth of information about the school and hope to answer any questions you might have. |

Literacy Project Launchw/c 13th June 2022 This year we are running a literacy project that will help students engage in text and prepare for their English curriculum in September. All students will be loaned a copy of the book Wonder by R J Palacio and provided with a booklet in which they can complete tasks. This booklet can be returned to their English teacher in September. |

Data Collection DeadlineThursday 30th June 2022 We will request that all data collection forms are returned to us by this date so as to allow us to update our school systems ready for September. |

Transition Days12th, 13th and 14th July 2022 We are inviting all of our new students into school to share in a three day experience of secondary school. This will involve lots of exciting activities and opportunities to meet with key members of staff. Students will get the opportunity to experience different learning environments and start to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings. NB. These days will be dependent on Government guidelines at the time and more information will be provided in due course. |

Student Q & A with the HeadteacherMonday 18th July 2022 Following on from the transition days, students will be bursting with questions about the coming year. Therefore, we will host a live online Q&A session via Microsoft Teams so that all students have the opportunity to join and to find out everything they need to feel ready for September. |

Year 7 SLT Link LiveTuesday 21st August 2022 We know that the Summer can be a long time away from school and for some students this can build nervousness and apprehension. Therefore, just before the new term commences, all students will be invited to a live meeting with their year group Senior Leader who will go through the plans and logistics for the new term. They will answer any questions and support with first day anxiety. |
Transition arrangements

Essential Equipment
Students must bring their own bag (that should fit an A4 folder) and pencil case which should include a minimum of; a pen, pencil, ruler and rubber. Students should also bring a basic geometry/maths set including protractor, ruler, compass and set square. A scientific calculator is also required (e.g. Casio FX-85GTX GCSE).
