Key Stage 3 Overview

KS3 (Yr 7, 8 & 9) – Curriculum Content

Course Title: Art and Design

Course Overview: Students are taught to use a range of techniques and media to record their observations in sketchbooks. They learn how to analyse and evaluate their own work, and that of Artist’s while studying art, craft, design from ancient times up to the present day.

Key Areas of Study:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture

Assessment: Teachers assess and give feedback regularly in lessons. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own work and evaluate their successes and weaknesses to make progress in Art.

Course Length: 3 Years

Progression to: GCSE Art and Design

Extra-Curricular Activities: Weekly Art Club


Key Stage 4 Overview

Course title: AQA GCSE Art, Craft and Desigm

Course Overview: This is a Dynamic and vibrant course which promotes learning across a variety of experiences through various processes, tools, techniques, materials and resources.

Key Areas Of Study:

  • Fine Art
  • Textile Design
  • 3D design
  • Photography

Assessment:
Portfolio – 60% of the marks
Externally set assignment - 40% of the marks, 10 hour final piece – exam conditions.

Course Length: 2 years

Progression to: Level 3 qualification such as A level Art, Craft and Design

Extra-Curricular Activities: Weekly Art Club

Trips: Gallery visits and other drawing trips
