Course Overview
Course title: Edexcel GCSE Maths
The aims and objectives are to enable students to
- develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
- to acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
- to reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
- to comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context.
There are two tiers of entry for GCSE, Foundation and Higher. We continue to assess the students throughout the two years of Key Stage 4 and students are entered for the tier best suited to their ability. We use the Edexcel examination board. The different tiers of entry allow for the different GCSE grades:

Assessment: There are three examination papers for each tier; each paper is 1 hour 30 minutes. There is one non calculator paper and two where the use of a calculator is permitted.
